Hot take: a client in Dallas said her PC was slow so I cleaned 14 years of dust out of the heatsink and the thing booted in 9 seconds
I was at her house last Tuesday for what she swore was a virus, but when I popped the side panel the CPU fan was packed solid with gray felt and there was a dead roach in the case. I pulled the heatsink, blew it out with a can of air, and swapped the thermal paste, and she went from a 4 minute boot to about 9 seconds without me touching Windows at all. How many of you check dust first before you even think about running a malware scan?
