Hot take: I was imaging drives before checking if the old one was even dying
Pulled a tower off a bench at my shop in Tacoma last Tuesday because the guy swore his drive was toast, and I had Clonezilla running on it within ten minutes like always. Then I actually read the SMART data. Reallocated sectors: zero. Power on hours: under 2,000. I had already imaged 40-something drives that season without glancing at the numbers once, just going straight to the copy. Turns out his issue was a dead SATA cable, a $6 part, and I nearly sold him a new SSD he didn't need. How many of you check the SMART report before you touch the cloning tools, or am I the only one who got lazy about it?
