Just fixed a shop PC that wasn't booting, turns out it was dust on the RAM sticks
Was working on a customer's old Dell desktop in my garage last night. Kept beeping at me and showing a black screen. Spent 20 minutes swapping cables before I popped the side panel off and saw a thick layer of dust caked on the RAM slots. Blew it out with compressed air and reseated both sticks. Fired right up first try. Felt good to solve it with a simple clean instead of ordering new parts. Anybody else ever had dust cause a no boot issue like that?

Yeah I read somewhere that dust can actually hold static electricity and mess with the pins on the RAM sticks. Not sure how true that is but it makes sense when you think about it. I've definitely had a few old towers that were just caked in dust inside and suddenly they start acting weird. A good blow out with some compressed air usually does the trick. Maybe it's just me but I feel like people forget that computers need to breathe just like we do. Never hurts to give them a clean every now and then. Its pretty satisfying when something that simple fixes the problem though right?
