My dad's printer repair advice actually made me rethink how I handle tickets
Last week my dad asked what I do when a client's printer keeps jamming. I started listing all the software fixes and driver updates. He just said, 'Did you check if the paper tray is loaded right?' I went back and found the paper was crooked in the tray, that was it. It hit me different because sometimes I overthink things when the fix is dead simple. Has anyone else had a customer make you realize you were making a problem harder than it needed to be?

But isn't the real skill knowing when to check the simple stuff first?

Man I had a buddy who spent like 3 hours troubleshooting a network issue at a small office, replacing cables and resetting routers, only to realize someone had accidentally unplugged the main switch power strip. He was so focused on the complex stuff he forgot to check if the thing was even on. His boss still jokes about it every time they get a ticket now.

Wait, has anyone else had that moment where you're digging through advanced settings and the answer is literally staring at you from a different direction? I spent a whole afternoon once trying to fix a friend's laptop that wouldn't charge. I updated the BIOS, swapped power adapters, checked the battery health, the WHOLE nine yards. Turned out she had a paperclip jammed in the charging port, completely blocking the connector. Sometimes I think we get so wrapped up in being 'experts' we forget the basics can trip us up harder than any complex glitch.
