Remember when we used to carry 20 different screwdrivers everywhere?

I was digging through my old tool bag last weekend and found my old PC repair kit from 2006. Back then I had like 15 different Phillips and flathead sizes for every random laptop screw. Now I just carry one iFixit kit with 64 bits and done. Most of my jobs now are SSD swaps and RAM upgrades anyway, not full motherboard replacements. The small magnetic tray I bought 3 years ago from Micro Center saved me more time than any screwdriver ever did. Anyone else's tool collection shrink way down after 2015?

Man that magnetic tray is a total game changer right? I remember losing a tiny little screw from a PS3 once that sent me hunting for an hour. Now I keep one of those sticky silicone mats too so nothing rolls away. Yeah my kit got way smaller around 2017 when M.2 drives started taking over. Still got a few weird security torx bits kicking around just in case though.

Totally feel you on losing those tiny screws. I dropped a screw from a Nintendo Switch once and it vanished into the carpet like it had a death wish. Magnetic trays saved me from so much frustration, but honestly that sticky silicone mat is genius for keeping everything from rolling off the table. I also downsized my bit set around the same time, but I still keep a weird little tri-wing bit buried in the drawer just for old Nintendo stuff. It's wild how much simpler repairs got once M.2 drives became the standard.
