Remembering that week in 2012 when every single client brought in a laptop with a failing hard drive.
We had a stack of 17 drives in the back, all making that same clicking sound, and my boss just kept saying 'back up the data first' like it was a mantra.

Wonder if it was a bad batch from a supplier... all those drives dying at once feels like more than just bad luck.

I saw a post from a small animation studio that lost three months of work because twelve drives from the same order failed within a week. That's not bad luck, that's a supplier playing Russian roulette with other people's data. You just know someone in accounting bought the "good enough" batch to save a few bucks. It's the kind of thing that makes you want to hug your own backup drive a little tighter.
