Simple thermal paste trick cut my CPU temps by 10 degrees overnight

Been building PCs for years and always did the pea sized dot in the middle. Last month I had a Ryzen 7 that kept hitting 85c under load even with a good cooler. Tried repasting three times, same result. Then a guy on another forum said 'spread it thin with a card first, like butter on toast.' I figured why not. Did that with some Arctic MX-4 and now it sits at 75c under full load. Any of you guys spread vs dot and see real differences? Want to know if I just got lucky.

Ten bucks says the "overnight" drop was just the thermal paste curing and your pea method was fine all along. But hey, if spreading it like butter makes you feel like a pro, go for it. I literally just slap a big X on my Intel chips and call it a day. Spreading with a card always leaves me with uneven coverage and air bubbles no matter what tutorial I watch.

I took a heat gun to my 3-month-old paste job after reading this and yeah @parker_davis41, it was cured solid like concrete. The pea method dropped me 2C overnight just from settling in, not magic application skills. Spreading with a card is just an extra step to mess up a perfectly good installation.
