Spent 3 hours chasing a ghost drive that didn't exist
Ran a diagnostic on a client's PC last Tuesday and CrystalDiskInfo showed a mysterious D: drive that wasn't in File Explorer at all. Turns out it was a leftover registry entry from a dead SD card reader that Windows kept trying to mount. Has anyone else fought with phantom drives that waste half your afternoon?

hold up im gonna disagree a little here. 3 hours on a phantom drive sounds like a lot but honestly registry ghost drives are pretty common and usually faster to fix. you couldve just checked Disk Management first instead of going straight to CrystalDiskInfo, that wouldve shown the drive with no volume right away. a quick regedit search for that drive letter or checking the upper/lower filters usually does the trick in like 10 minutes. not saying it was fun but half your afternoon might be stretching it a bit, this is one of those known windows quirks that veteran techs can spot in their sleep.

ugh man, I feel that. Been there way too many times with phantom drives and it's always a headache even if you know the tricks.
