Thermal paste swap cut my CPU temps by 12 degrees on a 5 year old gaming rig in Dallas
Swapped out the stock stuff for a $8 tube of Arctic MX-6 on a buddy's i7-7700K that was hitting 85C under load, and now it sits at 73C after 3 hours of Destiny 2 - anyone else see that big a drop just from paste?

Hold on, 12 degrees from just a paste swap on a 7700K? That sounds fake but I want it to be real. I've repasted dozens of old rigs and maybe see 3 or 4 degrees at best, usually nothing. You must have had the world's worst application from the factory or something, like it was half dried out glue. That's a bigger drop than going from a stock cooler to a decent air tower in my experience.

Gotta disagree with you there @elliotjenkins. I've seen a 10 degree drop on an old i7 4790k that had paste that looked like dried clay. Factory application was just bad, uneven, barely covering half the die. Some chips just ship with crap paste from the OEM, especially prebuilts. Not every repaste is a winner but when it is, it's a big deal. You ever crack open a Dell or HP from that era?
