Almost poured a slab on improperly compacted fill last Thursday in Riverside

The GC told me it was ready but I pushed a rebar down 4 feet with no resistance, and now the whole job's delayed a week while we wait for a soil test - anyone else deal with contractors rushing you like that?

Man that's a tough spot to be in. You did the right thing checking though, because that rebar test saved you from what could have been a nightmare down the road. GCs always try to push the schedule, but they forget we're the ones on the hook when things crack or settle later. Waiting a week for a soil test beats trying to explain why your slab is sinking six months from now. At least you caught it before the pour, which is more than a lot of folks get. How long is the soil test gonna take to get results back?
