Everyone keeps burning their finish with that spray-on sealer but I use a broom and roller every time

After 12 years of flatwork in Arizona I've never had a call-back with a roller but every spray job I see from other guys has peeling or discoloration within 6 months, so why do people keep buying those expensive spray rigs?

Watching guys drop thousands on spray rigs just to have their work look like a crackled desert floor six months later is honestly kind of hilarious. I mean, it's like buying a fancy sports car to drive to the mailbox when your old truck does the job fine. I saw a crew last summer spraying a driveway and the finish was already peeling before they even finished the garage apron. Maybe it's just me but I think people love the idea of looking professional more than they love getting the work done right.

12 years is a good run but I gotta push back on the six month timeline for spray failures. I'm in Phoenix and my buddy's crew has been spraying driveways here for like 8 years with decent results, maybe 1 in 20 has a problem if they prep right. The real issue is most guys don't back-roll after spraying, so the sealer sits on top and bubbles up in the sun. You're right that rollers are more foolproof, but a good spray job with a back-roll can look way smoother and last just as long if you know what you're doing. That peeling crew you saw probably skipped the back-roll step entirely or laid it on too thick in the heat. It's more about the technique than the tool, even though I still prefer a roller for most flatwork myself.
