Finally switched sides on fiber mesh after a slab fail near Tulsa

I used to think fiber mesh was a gimmick, pure and simple. All the old guys I worked with in Oklahoma swore it was just for guys who couldn't handle rebar or wire properly. Then last spring I poured a 30 by 40 shop slab for a buddy outside Tulsa and did it without any fiber, just standard 6x6 wire. Three weeks later a control joint spidered out and a crack ran clean across the middle. The wire didn't hold it like I thought it would, and my buddy was not thrilled about paying for a saw cut fix. After that I read up on how fiber handles plastic shrinkage cracks better than wire ever will, especially in that hot, dry wind we get around here. Now I toss 1.5 pounds per yard in every flatwork pour I do and I haven't seen a surface crack since. Anyone else have a specific job that made them ditch their old habit for fiber?
