Last week's pour had me missing the old crew dynamics
When I first started finishing concrete, the whole crew would show up early, share a pot of coffee, and joke around waiting for the truck. Now, half the guys are subcontracted, in and out without saying much. We used to have a foreman who knew everyone's name and kids, now it's some guy in an office sending texts. The radios played classic rock all day, and lunch was a shared cooler under the shade. These days, it's earbuds and everyone on their phones. I miss the way a hard day felt like a team win, not just another paycheck. The concrete still sets the same, but the people around it have changed.
