Learned the hard way about wet curing on a 90 degree day
Poured a driveway last July in Phoenix and thought I could just spray it down once and let it be. Came back 4 hours later and the surface was already checking like crazy. My old foreman saw it and told me I needed to keep burlap on it and mist it every 2 hours at minimum. Ever since I started doing wet curing with a soaker hose and plastic sheeting I haven't had a single crack issue. Anyone else got a go-to method for keeping slabs hydrated in crazy heat?

Bro you basically speedran the concrete learning curve in one Phoenix summer. Checking in 4 hours is like expecting a tortilla to stay soft in the microwave - just not happening. My go to is cheap painter's plastic stapled to some 2x4s around the edge, then a soaker hose running under it 24/7. Drys out? You're basically asking for a spiderweb finish. Sounds like you got saved by an old timer who actually knows his stuff.

Man that 4 hour check in is a recipe for disaster, I learned that the hard way on a 95 degree day in July. Had a slab crack so bad it looked like a map of the LA freeway system. The painter's plastic and soaker hose trick is solid, I do the same thing but I use old burlap sacks sometimes if I have them lying around. Sounds like you got bailed out by a guy who's been doing this since before most of us were born.
