Old guy at the supply yard told me I was floating too early
He was picking up a load of sand in Tacoma and saw me working a slab. He walked over, pointed at my trowel, and said 'You're gonna seal the bleed water in, kid.' I waited ten more minutes and the finish came out way better. How do you judge the right time to start floating?

That "seal the bleed water in" line is spot on, I learned that the hard way too. I was helping my uncle pour a patio when I was younger and got impatient. Started floating while it still looked wet in spots, not puddles just dark. He made me stop and wait. The whole thing ended up with this weird cloudy film and it dusted up bad later. Now I watch for that sheen to mostly go away and wait for my boot print to only sink about a quarter inch. That old guy gave you solid free advice lol.

How long did you have to wait that time?
