Rant: My uncle told me to never pour a slab in the morning if the ground was frozen the night before...

I shrugged it off on a job in Boise last winter, thinking the sun would warm things up enough. The slab cracked in a dozen places before we even finished the broom finish. Anyone else have a hard rule they ignored and paid for?
