Shoutout to the old timer in Fresno who saved my pour when the sun came up fast
Back in 2009 I was finishing a 40 by 60 slab outside Fresno and the mix started setting up on me quick. I had maybe 15 minutes of work left and the surface was already crusting over, so I panicked and reached for the water hose. An old finisher named Ray grabbed my arm and said the hose would blow the top off it, then handed me a magnesium float and told me to work it in slow circles. We floated that crust right back into the cream and got the whole thing bull floated before it got away from us. Any of you ever bring a slab back from the edge like that, or did I just get lucky with the timing?
That line about the hose blowing the top off it is real, I will give you that. But acting like a magnesium float is some kind of magic trick feels like a stretch, all it does is pull the cream back up so you can work with it. Timing is what saved you, not the tool. If that crust had gone another ten minutes you could have floated till your arms fell off and it still would have been trash. You got lucky Ray was standing there, plain and simple.
