The day I figured out I'd been mixing wrong for 3 years

I was on a job in Fargo last month, and this old timer watched me dump my bags in. He just shook his head and said 'you're killing your slump, kid.' Turns out I was adding too much water every time to make it easier to work. Been doing that since I started, thought everyone did. Now I batch it stiff and it holds shape way better. Any of you guys ever get called out for something basic that just clicked?

Used to be dead set against changing my mix at all, thought consistency was the only thing that mattered. Watching a guy show me the difference in the bucket changed my mind real quick though.

Oh man, that totally reminds me of this time I was helping a buddy with his old truck. He swore by this one specific brand of motor oil, wouldn't touch anything else. Then his engine started knocking like crazy and a mechanic just poured in some cheap stuff with a different viscosity and it purred like a kitten. It's wild how stubborn we get about stuff like that, thinking what we know is the only way until someone shows us different. Really opens your eyes to how much small changes can matter, you know?
