I kept looking for hidden messages in old TV shows for years
I used to watch old cartoons and shows from the 80s, trying to find secret clues about the world. I'd pause frames, look for symbols, the whole thing. Then last month, I was watching a documentary about how those shows were made. A guy who worked on one said they had a budget of about $15,000 per episode and only 5 days to finish each one. They were just trying to get it done on time. It hit me that I was looking for a grand plan where there was mostly just stress and tight deadlines. I was seeing patterns in the chaos of a rushed production. Has anyone else had a moment where the boring truth behind something made you rethink your whole search?

Man that documentary would have saved me so much time. I was totally convinced old music videos had backwards satanic messages, spent hours with the tape deck running things in reverse. Finding out most of those "clues" were just random studio noise or the artist mumbling totally killed the magic. It's funny how our brains want to find a secret story when the real one is just people trying to finish their work. Kind of a letdown but also makes you feel less crazy for looking.

Ugh I know exactly what you mean... I did the same thing with some old records my dad had. It feels so silly now but at the time it was like you were uncovering this huge secret. Our brains are just wired to make patterns out of nothing. The real story is always way more boring, like someone just tired in the studio. Still kind of miss that feeling of finding a "clue" though.
