My phone died mid-argument at the DMV and the line just kept growing
Last Tuesday I had to renew my tags at the downtown office, the one on 4th Street. I got there at 8am thinking I'd beat the rush, but there were already 15 people ahead of me. I was on hold with my insurance company about a billing error when my battery hit zero. No charger, no backup, just a dead brick in my hand. So I stood there for 2 hours with nothing to do but watch the number board tick up one digit every 10 minutes. The clerk finally called my number at 10:47 and I had to ask if I could use her desk phone to call my wife for the policy number. She said no, so I had to walk outside and find a pay phone, which still exists apparently, and call collect. By the time I got back, they'd moved me to the end of the line again. My question is: has anyone else had a simple errand collapse because one piece of tech gave out at the worst second? And what's your backup plan when your phone is the only thing holding your whole day together?
