Parking lot at the county fair made me rethink my whole route to work
I was at the Polk County Fair last Saturday, standing in the gravel lot with my truck. The guy next to me was parked three spaces away from the nearest car, just sitting in his lawn chair reading a book. I asked him why he was way out there and he said he always parks far from crowds because he read a report about how vehicle break-ins spike at big events. He showed me a news article on his phone about a fair in Ohio where 40 cars got hit in one night. That got me thinking about my daily commute downtown. I always park in the busy lot near the train station because I want to save walking time. Now I park three blocks over in a quieter spot and I haven't seen a single broken window in two months. Has anyone else changed their parking habits after a weird encounter like that?

Tbh I used to roll my eyes at people like that, but @patp79, you changed my mind on this one.

Used to think people who parked way out were just being weird about their cars or something. That Ohio fair story hits different though, makes you realize how fast stuff can go sideways in a crowded lot. Now I walk the extra couple minutes too, just feels smarter even if it rains. Funny how one conversation can flip your whole routine like that.
