The $40 thermal camera attachment that killed my insulation conspiracy theory
I used to argue with anyone who listened that house wrap was a scam and that the builders who skipped it were onto something. My electric bill in July hit $310 so I grabbed one of those cheap FLIR attachments for my phone off Amazon, $40 on sale. Pointed it at my walls and the thermal bridging was so obvious it was almost embarrassing. Every stud was a cold line straight to the outside. That visual proof did more than any graph or article ever did. I redid the sealant around the windows and the attic hatch myself for about $25 in supplies and my next bill dropped to $230. Has anyone else had a cheap tool completely flip their view on a building science argument?
