Vent: that $250 water leak detector just made me question everything

Found a slow drip under the sink in Phoenix last month, the sensor went off at 3am and the alarm was loud enough to wake my whole crew. It cost me $250 for the unit plus $90 in plumbing parts, but I still cant shake the feeling that the real leak was never the pipe, it was the builder who sold the house as 'new'. Has anyone else paid for high tech safety gear and ended up more paranoid than protected?

Buddy of mine in Tucson dropped $400 on a smart water shutoff valve. Three weeks later his kid flushed a toy and the thing shut off the whole house at 2am, flooded the hallway anyway because it closed too slow. He ended up unplugging it and now just checks under the sink once a month. The tech just gives you one more thing to worry about, in my experience.
