Debate: Microwave popcorn vs stovetop popcorn - which is the real snack sin?

My roommate said stovetop popcorn is the only way to go and called microwave stuff 'fake popcorn', but I grew up on microwave bags and think the crispy texture is part of the fun. What's the consensus here - am I just nostalgic or is he right about it being trash?

Fake popcorn" is harsh, I feel you on this one.

Yeah, I get why you say that. But I think "fake popcorn" is actually pretty spot on for that overly processed, weirdly shiny stuff they give you sometimes. It looks like popcorn but has none of the real buttery taste or crunch.
