Mark's shake-dipped fries turned our lunch into a showdown

We met up at the burger joint down the street last Friday. Mark ordered a vanilla shake and a large fries, then proceeded to dunk every single fry. I swear, the whole table went silent for a second. My other friend Jen laughed and called it a genius move, but I think it's absolutely disgusting. We spent the next half hour debating if sweet and salty belongs together. I left feeling annoyed because now I'm side-eyeing anyone who eats fries near a milkshake.

Sweet and salty combos are a classic divide, like pineapple on pizza. People get oddly defensive about their stance. What do you think drives that strong reaction over something as small as fries in a shake?

Ugh, it's a texture crime. The whole point of fries is that crispy, salty crunch. Dunking them turns them into a sad, soggy mess. It ruins two good things at once. People get so heated because it feels like a personal attack on how food should work. It's not about taste, it's about respecting the fry.
