The Great Hot Dog Bun Debate: Steamed vs. Toasted

I went to a cookout last weekend and my buddy insisted on steaming his hot dog buns in a pot of water. I'm a toasted bun person myself, I like that crunch. He swore the soft steamed bun is the only way to go for a true Chicago style dog. Am I missing something or is toasting the clear winner here?

I'm with you and @lily230 all the way on this one. That crunchy, slightly charred edge really makes the hot dog taste better to me. Every time I try a steamed bun I just end up missing the texture.

Agreed completely, nothing beats that toasted crunch and I always regret it when I go for the soft bun.
