Tried dipping potato chips in yogurt instead of sour cream
Ran out of sour cream last Tuesday night while watching the game in Portland. Had plain Greek yogurt in the fridge so I gave it a shot on some kettle cooked chips. Honestly the tang is close enough but the texture is thinner so chips get soggy faster. Anyone else swap something unusual for a dip and it kinda worked?

The chips get soggy faster part really hits. That's my whole problem with these swaps. People try to replace one thing with another and ignore the actual structure of what they're eating. Yogurt and sour cream look the same but they're completely different animals when it comes to how they sit on a chip. I notice this all the time with food. Everyone wants a shortcut or a healthier version but the texture always gives it away. It's like people forget that half the enjoyment of dipping is the physical experience not just the taste. You end up with a sad wet chip and wondering why you bothered.

Try swapping the sour cream with a thicker Greek yogurt if you have to make the swap, not the watery regular stuff. Let it sit for a minute after you spoon it over the chips, so the moisture sinks in before you dive in. Also, using tortilla chips with more crunch like the scoop style ones helps a ton - they hold up way better than the thin flimsy ones. It’s not perfect but it’s the closest I’ve gotten without going back to full fat sour cream.
