Why does nobody talk about how stale pretzels make the best snack base

I tried to make a sweet and salty trail mix last week with a bag of pretzels that had been open for like 10 days, and instead of tossing them, I threw them in with some chocolate chips and peanuts. The stale crunch actually held up better than fresh ones, no weird sogginess after 3 hours in my desk drawer. Maybe it's just me, but has anyone else found that old pretzels beat new ones for anything besides eating straight out of the bag?

My desk drawer at work has seen its fair share of stale snacks, and I gotta say, calling them the BEST snack base is a stretch. I did the same thing with some old pretzels and dark chocolate chips last month, and yeah, they held up, but the chocolate just tasted like it was trying to hide the staleness. Fresh pretzels give you that clean snap, while stale ones just have that dry, dusty thing going on. It's fine if you're desperate, but I wouldn't start leaving bags open on purpose. You're basically making a plan for mediocre snacks, and that seems like a lot of effort for something that's just okay.
