A client told me my foundation shade match was off - she was right

I had a bridal client last Saturday who said my shade match looked a bit too warm for her skin. Turns out I was matching to her face but not blending down her neck and chest. Has anyone else had a client call them out on something that completely changed how they approach a step?

That's actually a really good point about blending down the neck and chest. The face tends to have more redness from blood flow and skin treatments, so it can pull warmer than the rest of the body. I had a similar moment a few years back when a bridesmaid pointed out that my match looked great in natural light but totally off in the flash photography at the reception. That taught me to always check under different lighting, especially for events with pro photographers. Now I always swatch three potential shades along the jawline and down the side of the neck, then step outside or use a ring light to see how they shift. It's crazy how much of a difference that extra thirty seconds makes, and clients really appreciate when you're willing to adjust on the spot instead of getting defensive.

Honestly, is it REALLY that big of a deal? I get being careful but “teaches you to always check under different lighting” makes it sound like a life lesson. It’s just foundation, right?
