A client's offhand remark about my color lines got me to switch brushes

I used to think any brush would do for balayage. Then a client named Dana mentioned my sections looked a little stripey compared to her last stylist in Portland. I shrugged it off at first, but on my next few appointments I watched my work more closely. She was right, the pigment sat heavier where the brush dragged. After 2 weeks of testing a smaller round brush from the supply shop, my blends came out way softer and Dana's roots grew out without that hard band. Has anyone else had a client notice something you missed for years?
