An older stylist told me my sectioning was a mess
Back when I was still new, maybe 5 years ago, I had this client with super thick hair. An older stylist at my salon watched me struggle and just said 'your sections are too big, you're missing half the hair'. She showed me how to use thinner, more even sections and pin them tighter. Now I spend the extra few minutes on sectioning and it saves me so much time on the actual cut. Has anyone else had a basic trick like that totally change their work?

That line about 'your sections are too big, you're missing half the hair' really hit home for me. I read somewhere that proper sectioning is like the foundation of a house, if it's shaky everything else falls apart. Since I started being super strict about it, my cuts come out way more even and I don't have to double back as much.

That line about foundation really clicked for me, since focusing on small sections finally ended my uneven cuts.
