Appreciation post for how much better hair color removers are now

I was digging through old photos from around 2007 and saw a horrible orange-red I tried to strip off myself back then. That old powder and peroxide mix burned my scalp so bad and left my hair feeling like straw for weeks. Fast forward to last Tuesday when I had to fix a client's black box dye disaster with a modern color remover, and it worked in 20 minutes without any damage. The client even said "that felt like a deep conditioning treatment" while we were waiting. Has anyone else noticed how much gentler these products have gotten in the last 15 years?

Dude, that powder stuff was straight up dangerous! I remember trying to strip a dark brown in 2012 and my scalp was on fire for two days. @the_robin your friend's story is wild, that sounds exactly like what I went through. I finally gave up and grew it out for a year. Last month I used one of the new color removers on a black dye job my cousin did at home, and it came out clean in under half an hour. My hair felt soft and normal right after, no burning, no straw texture at all. It is honestly night and day compared to the old stuff.

Friend of mine tried to strip black dye out of her hair around 2010 with that powder stuff. She had chemical burns on her scalp and her hair snapped off at the shoulders. Last year she used one of the new no-damage removers on a dark brown she hated. Her hair felt normal after, no breakage, no weird texture. The stuff now is basically a different product category than what we had.
