Can we talk about the client who told me she washes her hair twice a day and wonders why it's fried?
I just had a consult with a new client in Denver who said her stylist of 6 years never told her to back off the double shampoo, and her ends felt like straw. I put her on a once a day wash with a sulfate free shampoo and a heat protectant, and after 3 weeks her mid lengths finally stopped snapping. How are you all explaining wash frequency without sounding like you're lecturing them?
How do you even bring that up without them getting defensive though? I feel for you because that consult must have been rough, six years with someone who never once mentioned she was stripping her own hair every day. Honestly the fact that you got her mid lengths to stop snapping in three weeks is huge, that means you actually explained it in a way that stuck. I usually tell them shampoo cleans the scalp, not the ends, and that alone seems to click better than saying cut back. It's wild how many people think more washing equals cleaner equals healthier when it's the total opposite.
