Finally got a client's color correction right after three appointments
Had a new client come in last month wanting to go from black box dye to a honey blonde. First session, we lifted it to an orange mess. Second try, still too brassy. This past Friday, I used a different violet-based toner and a lower volume developer. Left it on for exactly 25 minutes. She looked in the mirror and just said 'yes, this is it.' Felt so good after all that work. Anyone have a go-to toner for stubborn orange tones?

My salon keeps a 9v violet toner for exactly this. It's stronger than a 7v and cuts that orange base without going ashy. I mix it with a 5 volume developer for 15 minutes on dry hair after lifting.

Oh man, that "yes, this is it" moment is the best. I had a client with the same orange problem from dark dye. Tried a blue shampoo first and it did nothing. Switched to a violet toner with a 10 volume developer and left it for 20 minutes. The change was huge. It went from a straight up pumpkin color to a nice beige blonde.
