Finally got a stubborn client's hair to hold a curl for more than an hour

This client has super fine, straight hair that would drop any curl I put in it almost right away (like, within 30 minutes). I tried everything, even prepping with a strong hold mousse. Last week, I sectioned her hair and sprayed each section with a light-hold hairspray *before* I curled it, then did my normal curling routine. I used the Kenra Volume Spray 25, for reference. The curls actually lasted through her whole dinner date, about 4 hours. Has anyone else tried pre-spraying on hair that just won't hold?

That pre-spray trick is a total lifesaver for hair that fights curl. Been there with clients who have that super fine, slippery texture. Lightly misting each section before the iron creates a grippy base that the heat can really set. It's like giving the style something to hold onto. @troy_palmer76 is right, it changes everything for fine hair. A light-hold spray works best so it doesn't get crunchy or sticky while you're working.

Wait, you're saying this actually works better than post-curling spray? I always thought you had to hit it with something after the iron to lock the curl in... but I gave that pre-spray method a shot on my own hair the other day, and @claireo67 is totally right about the grip thing. My hair is that weird in-between texture where curls fall flat by lunch, but misting each section first actually made them hold through a whole windy day outside. The heat just seems to melt the product in so there's no crunch to brush out later. It's wild how much smoother the finished look is too, no flaking like with some of those heavy hold sprays.

I always thought you had to spray after curling for hold. That Kenra trick with the pre-spray on each section is a total game changer for fine hair though. Might have to try that next time my sister asks for help.
