Had a chat with a retired stylist that made me rethink highlights
I was talking to this older stylist named Carol at a supply shop in Boise last week. She said I should focus more on lowlights and dimension instead of trying to make everything super blonde. It hit different because she showed me photos from her 30 years of work and the difference was huge. Has anyone else shifted their approach after talking to someone who's been doing it longer?

yeah so i had basically the same thing happen a few years back. i was dead set on platinum everything and this old school colorist literally talked me down from the ledge lol. she showed me pics of her clients who had all these different tones woven in and it looked way more natural and rich than my brassy mess. i switched to doing a lot more lowlights and shadow root type stuff and honestly my hair has never been healthier or looked better. it doesnt grow out looking like garbage either which is huge cause i am way too lazy for monthly touchups. the dimension really does make a difference, you can actually see the texture and movement instead of just a flat block of color.

Oh man, that shadow root thing is a game changer. I did the same thing after my hair started snapping off from constant bleaching. Now my regrowth just looks like an intentional style choice instead of a hot mess.
