I finally cracked the secret to fixing old perm rods at the shop
Tbh, I was at the Ulta Beauty Supply in Phoenix last Tuesday and overheard a stylist talking about soaking crusty perm rods in a mix of hot water and rubbing alcohol. I tried it on the 30 rods I had sitting in my drawer for ages, and they came out completely clean in about 20 minutes. Has anyone else found a better way to restore old tools without replacing them?

Have you checked if the rods are actually the right type for modern perming solutions? Some of that old plastic can react badly with today's chemicals and ruin a perm instead of saving you money.

Nah, old rods are fine. Perms work the same way they did 20 years ago. If the plastic isn't warped or cracked they'll hold solution just like new ones.
