Just read something wild about hair bleach and pH levels
I was flipping through an old textbook from beauty school (the one from 2010, collecting dust on my shelf) and saw that most powdered lighteners have a pH around 9 or 10. But then I looked up a recent study from a big brand's lab, and some modern cream developers can push it to 11.5. That's a huge jump I never really thought about. It explains why some formulas feel so different on the scalp, even at the same volume. Has anyone else noticed a change in how sensitive clients are to newer bleaching products?

Remember my friend Dana tried a new bleach last year. She said it felt like hot pins on her scalp within five minutes, way faster than her usual stuff. We checked the box later and the pH was listed crazy high, like over 11. She had to rinse it out and her scalp was red for days. It makes total sense now hearing that the formulas are stronger. I wonder if the higher pH is why some clients need more olaplex or conditioner mixed in these days.
