Shoutout to that cheap setting spray I judged by its bottle

I picked up a $4 setting spray from a beauty supply shop on 8th Ave last month and swore it would be garbage, but it outlasted my $30 Urban Decay through a double wedding shift last Saturday. Has anyone else found a random product that totally surprised them like that?

Got a random toothpaste from a corner bodega once that looked like generic store brand garbage. Bought it because my usual was sold out and I was desperate before a date. Turned out that toothpaste made my teeth feel cleaner than any Colgate or Crest I ever used. Still buy it when I can find it even though the tube design looks like something from a 90s gas station. Funny how the stuff we ignore ends up being the real deal.

Did the tube have like a weird Soviet-era design on it, or was it just plain white with generic font? I ask because there's this one brand that you can only find at random bodegas near me and the tube looks like it was designed in 1987 but the paste is legitimately amazing. Have you ever looked up the ingredients to see what makes it better than the big brands?
