Shoutout to the colorist who talked me out of a big change, my client's hair grew out 3 inches in 5 months thanks to her
So I do cuts mostly, but I refer my color clients to a gal named Renee who works two chairs down from me at the shop here in Boise. Back in March a client came in wanting to go from a level 4 dark brown to platinum in one sitting, and I knew that was a bad idea, so I walked her over to Renee instead of just doing what she asked. Renee did a slow build instead, a full highlight and tone that first visit, then two more sessions spaced about 8 weeks apart. Fast forward to now and this client's hair is down past her shoulders, grew probably 3 inches since spring, and it still feels soft instead of fried. I have watched people wreck their hair so many times going too fast, and the difference in this one is night and day because somebody said no and meant it. The client even tipped Renee $60 on the last visit and said she was mad at first about not getting platinum day one. If you do color, how do you handle the clients who push for the big jump, do you just refuse or do you book them out and hope they stick with the plan?
So she went from mad client to $60 tip just because somebody finally told her no. Wild how that works.
Most people pushing for the big jump have already fried their hair once before and forgot how bad it was. Renee basically played the long game and won.
