Spent three days on a single client's color correction that should have been a quick fix.

Had a client come in wanting to go from a box black dye to a light ash blonde. Figured it was a two-step process, maybe one long day. The old color wouldn't lift evenly, kept pulling warm and patchy. I tried a color remover first, then a gentle bleach bath. Still had banding. Ended up doing a series of targeted low-volume developer applications over three separate appointments. My station was a mess of foils and bowls. The final result was good, but the time it ate up was crazy. Anyone else have a color correction that just refused to cooperate? What's your go-to method for stubborn artificial pigment?

Ever try a soap cap on that kind of box dye? I used to avoid them, thought they were too harsh. But after a few disasters with banding like you described, I changed my tune. A careful, well-conditioned soap cap can sometimes soften that line without wrecking the mid-lengths. It's still a huge pain, but it might save you a full extra appointment.

Yeah I was totally in the same boat @willow_martin. Always thought soap caps were way too risky but after fighting banding a couple times I gotta admit you're right. Might actually try that next time instead of booking another whole session lol.
