That cheap heat protectant spray finally ruined my flat iron
I was using this $4 spray from the drugstore for like 6 months, figured heat protectant is heat protectant. Last week I noticed my plates were getting this sticky brown buildup no matter how much I cleaned. Finally realized the spray has alcohol and sugar in it, basically caramelizing on my iron at 400 degrees. Swapped to a silicone based one from the beauty supply and the iron works smooth again. Any of you guys run into this with budget sprays?

Well what kind of silicone spray? There's a big difference between the ones that are just lube and the ones that actually condition the rubber. Which one do you mean?
