That one client who taught me about patience

I had a woman come in last Tuesday for a full foil and she kept flinching every time I touched her scalp. Turns out she had a bad experience years ago with a stylist who burned her with bleach. How do you handle clients who are nervous from past salon trauma?

Yeah that's rough. Slow movements and clear warnings help.

Yeah @derek99 nailed it with slow movements. That helps a lot. I had a similar client once and what really worked was letting her hold a hand mirror so she could watch what I was doing the whole time. It gave her some control back and she relaxed way faster. I also talk through every step before I do it, like "okay now I'm going to apply the color to this section, you'll feel a little cold." No surprises. Some stylists rush through the consultation part but taking an extra ten minutes upfront saves everyone a headache later.
