That texture tip from my boothmate saved my highlight game

My boothmate Karen kept telling me to use a finer grit sponge for wet layering highlights, and I thought she was crazy since I've always used those cheap wedge sponges. Tried her $5 silicone sponge last week on a client with thin hair and the color came out so smooth and blended perfect. Has anyone else switched up their tool for highlights and seen a big difference?

Wait, a $5 silicone sponge? I need to find this thing because I've been using those cheap wedges forever and I just accept the blotchiness on thin hair. That's wild that a sponge can make that big of a difference for wet layering, I always figured it was just technique. My last client with baby-fine hair ended up with those little dark spots where the color pooled and I was so annoyed. Definitely looking up what you used before my next appointment.

Hard disagree tbh. That little dark spot issue is more about how you're applying the color than what you're putting it on with. I've used those cheap wedges for years on super fine hair and never had pooling problems because I squeeze out most of the liquid before it touches the hair. A silicone sponge just makes you feel like you're being fancy but it doesn't fix bad technique. Plus those things harbor bacteria like crazy since they never fully dry out. Save your five bucks and just wring out your wedge better.
