Vent: How I was applying toner all wrong for years

Tbh I only figured this out when a client asked why her highlights looked orange after I used toner on her. I had been leaving it on way too long and not checking the porosity first. Has anyone else made this dumb mistake with toners?

Wait, people actually leave toner on that long? I had no idea you were supposed to check porosity first either. That's wild to think you can mess up a whole client's hair by just leaving it on a few extra minutes. I've definitely left purple shampoo on way too long before and ended up with weird blue streaks, so I guess it's a similar mistake. Toner seems way more permanent though, that's scary.

Oh man, yeah that totally changed my perspective too. I used to think toner was this super forgiving thing you could just slap on and rinse whenever. But seeing how hair porosity changes the timing, it makes total sense why some people end up with uneven color or weird bands. I honestly never considered that different parts of the same head of hair could need different timing. Kind of glad I read this before I tried doing it myself at home, I probably would have ruined it.
