Why do stylists keep over-saturating hair with developer when the bottle clearly says 20 volume?

I had to fix a client's brassy highlights yesterday in Portland that someone else did with 30 volume on fine hair and now I'm wondering how many of y'all actually read the damn instructions before mixing.

Right, grabbing whatever bottle is closest is basically playing roulette with someone's hair. 20 volume exists for a reason, and it ain't to sit there on the shelf looking pretty. The whole "more lift faster" thing people think is happening just ends up with porous, fried hair that grabs onto toner like a sponge, then you're stuck doing a color correction anyway. It's way less work to just read the bottle the first time instead of spending an hour trying to fix a brassy disaster. Plus, clients remember who gave them the bad highlight job, not who saved it.

I used to just grab whatever bottle was closest, but fixing brass last week made me a full ingredient reader now.
