Buddy told me to stop dragging my 6 year old into easy levels, now we do the hard ones first and she's a different player

For like 2 years I was letting my daughter pick the first world in every co-op game because I figured she needed a warmup. My buddy watched us play one Saturday and said 'you're teaching her the whole game is a warmup, start her where it's hard.' So last month we jumped straight into the lava castle in Mario Wonder and she died maybe 15 times but finished it. Now she won't touch the easy stuff and honestly she plays better than me on some boards. Anyone else flip the order like that with their kids or a less skilled partner?
