Finally tried a luffing jib on a tight downtown site instead of a traditional crawler

After fighting with street closures for 3 days on a job in Seattle I swapped to a luffing jib and got the pick done in one afternoon, has anyone else made the switch and seen that big a difference?

That reduced swing radius is the real game changer. I did a similar swap on a tight infill lot in Chicago last year and being able to clear a corner deli and a bus stop without blocking anything made the whole job way smoother.

My buddy runs a small outfit in Portland and he tried the same swap on a 12 story apartment job last spring. He told me the luffing jib let him park the crane right against the building line, which saved 2 days of sidewalk permits and one whole street closure. The real kicker was the reduced swing radius meant he could walk loads over active retail without blocking alleys. Seattle's permit office must have been thrilled you cut that headache down.
