Foreman told me to 'trust the sway' and I almost lost a load

We were setting steel on a 12 story job in Phoenix last Tuesday and my foreman kept yelling at me to stop fighting the load drift, saying I was overcorrecting like a rookie. On the third pick he climbed up to the cab, pointed at the horizon, and told me to just let the boom swing until the wind settled, no touch the controls for a full 10 count. I did it and sure enough the beam stopped dead over the bolt holes, but now I'm wondering how many guys actually run that trick or if he was just messing with me that day.
