Had a swing job in Portland where the wind picked up just as I was setting a 12-ton HVAC unit.
The spotter yelled 'Hold!' and we had to keep it suspended for 45 minutes until it calmed down. Ever had a lift where you just had to wait it out?

That 45 minute hold is no joke, but I have to point out a 12-ton HVAC unit is actually 24,000 pounds. We always say "tons" for the cooling capacity, not the physical weight. The actual rigging weight is way less, maybe 3,000 pounds for the curb and unit. Still a scary hold in the wind for sure. I've been there waiting for a gust to pass with a load just hanging. It feels like forever when you're responsible for it.

Man, that sounds tense. Good point from @hollym82 too, but any hold in the wind is a long few minutes.

Yeah that weight mix-up is super common. I read a whole article about how the "ton" thing trips people up in construction all the time. Makes those holds even more stressful when the numbers are floating around wrong.
